Rita Hayworth's Lustrous Locks

Rita Hayworth, one of the most famous actresses of all time was know for her perfectly lustrous locks! How to get them? Easy! Follow a couple of her at home remedies that would even make Goldy-locks jealous!

The "Look":

Beautiful glossy hair in no time!

STEP 1: Shampoo hair with HOT water. Careful not to burn yourself!

STEP 2: Saturate hair with Oil (Argan or Olive Oil) and wrap in towel for 15 minutes

STEP 3: Rinse again with HOT water. Wash hair with shampoo and lemon juice to rid the hair of any remaining residue.

STEP 4: Style hair as desired!

The "Point":

Rita Hayworth born, Margarita Carmen Cansino, on October 17, 1918 was known as one of the greatest actresses of all time. Doing 61 films in 37 years was no easy feat. She was raised as a dancer, not an actress, by her Spanish father who was also a dancer. At the age of eighteen she married a man twice her age which led to her seeking work as an actress out of need of income.  After five years of marriage and Hollywood stardum she divorced. She would marry and divorce four more times. She has two girls during those marriages one of which is a princess. In 1972 she starred in her last film and in 1980 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She would be laid to rest seven years later.
Rita struggled alcoholism her entire life. She was unable to cope with the stresses of life and her career. In her biography it says she was raised as a Christian and desired for her daughters to be raised as such as well. I also noticed that she was a woman full of pain and hurt, as the majority of the men that she was married to would abuse her emotionally and use her for her success. As I read her life story, I wondered if that was the life that "Christianity"is supposed to offer. By no means does Christianity give you a key to access a perfectly happy life, but is supposed to provide one full of purpose, hope, and love.
I believe that very few people actually tap into that life. They go to a church service every Sunday, pray on occasion to meet the "requirement", but they continue to live destroyed. How many of us actually seek God and really believe that our lives can be happy? Do we talk to Jesus only when we need something? Do we go to church as a requirement to make someone happy? Do we ever feel like we are too stained or broken to possibly be noticed by God? These are all valid questions to ask ourselves...

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I come so that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10

To have a relationship with Christ isn't meant to be a daily requirement. It is meant to be a lifestyle that has the capabilities to transform our way of thinking, our decision making, and even our feelings. I grew up in the church and I never found that real connection with Christ till a couple of years ago. I went to missionary school, studied theology, but it was all just a religion that I had been living out. Two days after I married I moved to a completely new place, a new culture, and was far away from family and friends. For two years I lived in a deep depression and hated everything about my life. It wasn't until I began to really understand the truth in Jesus' words that I began to slowly pull myself out of the pit. I began to really make an effort when I opted to visit a Christian Therapist, who is now one of my spiritual fathers, and read books that I knew would teach me more about the truth of who Jesus is. I would literally pray and ask God to "unteach me all that I thought was truth and reteach me what was real". Today I can say that I am more in love with Jesus than I have ever been. It didn't happen from night to day; it was a process.
Today I talk to God on a regular basis. I seek out podcast of woman who offer insight that is of great use to my heart. I read books about learning to grow in Christ and I continue to learn more about seeking him through his word. Today I refuse to live out a religion. I chose to live a relationship and not live feeling sorry for myself and the circumstances that surround me. We must chose to use the things in our lives to propel us to a fuller way of living through Christ as it was intended.
I challenge you to seek out way to find Jesus. Weather it is through writing, music, reading, painting, or even just talking and listening, I can guarantee that he will not close His ear to a heart that longs for him!

The Naked Truth

What if we could go to the grocery store without looking rediculous and not spend an obscene amount of time looking like we care? Let's be real. The majority of us don't care about looking fabulous whilst going to Walgreens or Red Box but the truth is, you never know who you will bump into. It ALWAYS happens. You know the whole, "I hope I don't see anyone I know." And you turn the corner and there is your mother in law, your ex-boyfriend, or an over enthusiastic member of your church. You try to go the opposite way but it's too late! They've already spotted you! Then you HAVE to say hi cause, well, then it would be rude not too. After a fifteen minute convo you grab what you need and bolt outta there. All cause you didn't prepare. Imagine how this could've played out if you HAD prepared. You walk in and your glowing. You swish your hair slow motion to the left, then to the right. The cashier steals a glance. You wink. ((TING)). Your smiling at everyone with your glossy lips and batting your long lusterous lashes. You round the corner and there in the toiletry isle is...is...

Ok! Ok! It doesn't always end with Fabio but hey! You feel great about yourself! This especially goes out to all you ladies who are stay at home moms or stay at home wives! Sometimes we need a "pick-me-up". And surprisingly it only takes 5 minutes! Scouts Honor.

P.S. I haven't forgotten about you working ladies! Especially the ones that take longer drinking your coffee than getting ready in the morning! ( I was one of those and I worked selling MAKEUP!) This one goes out to you too! As my dear friend Emile says..."Get it togetha!"

The "Look":

A face that will last you all day with only 5 minutes of work!

The "Tutorial":

*I forgot to include this in the video but...I applied my foundation with my hands. Just remember to evenly distribute. OR you can use a powder foundation.

The "Products":

I use this foundation on a daily basis. It works best with drier skin and has an spf 15! For more information on how to find a great foundation for your skin type you can check out my blog post called "Trace the Base".
Smashbox's Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer $30

You can skip this step if you like. I use it cause it not only acts as a nice primer for my bronzer eyeshadow, but it also helps neautralize my dark circles and makes a perfect prep for my concealer! I don't recommend it for darker skin colors as it only comes in one light shade.
Benefit's Stay Don't Stray $24

This stuff is no joke and will cover EVERYTHING! This foundation is one of the few things I recommend outside of my beloved Sephora. I swear by it and couldn't live without it as a CONCEALER. I would only use it as a foundation for insnely special ocassions.
 Dermablend $30

This step is completely otional. If your using a powder foundation you obviously won't need it! Just a ligh ttouch will do!
Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil $19-30

This bronzer is the makeup love of my life. I use it daily also! Really beautiful on all skin types!
Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzer $28

This is a really great liner. It glides on nicely and has a smudgie on the end!
You can find this at a salon near you! If you live in Puerto Rico, metro area, you can find it at HUMA salon in Hato Rey! Or find your favorite brown liner with a smudgie and apply!
TIGI haircare.com (for a salon near you) Big Fat Fun Eye Liner

Any mascara will do really. I used this one. I like it cause it;s all natural and it still keeps my lashes soft while maintaining them "up" all day! Really great one!
Korres Deep Colour Mascara $18

Non sticky no fuss gloss! Gotta love it!
NARS Lip Gloss $24

If you can get away with it you can skip this step too! Sometimes less is more! I on the other hand have a giant bald spot on my eyebrow so I need the pencil! This one is my favorite. I use it in Medium Ash.
Anastasia Brow Wiz $20

The "Point":

Have you ever been in a place in your life where you are experiencing the most tulmutous time yet the most beautiful time all at once? I can definately say that I am at one of those points. I feel so close to my maker and yet so far away from myself. I often get on my own nerves. That's right, I said it...on my own nerves. I think Paul said it best when he wrote:

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." Romans 7:15

Just today I was talking to my mom about my nephews. She was telling me that the twins, who are about to turn seven, were in the shower and started screaming their heads off. When my sister and mother got to the bathroom, one of them was holding his eye and the other was crying. "What happened?"my mother asked. "Ethan punched me in the eye!". Ethan's response? "I didn't want to...I don't know why I did it!". Boys will be boys, but Ethan's response is one that many of us tell ourselves when we do stupid things that make no sense whatsoever. My sister soon intervened and said,"It's okay mom I will take care of it."
Like Peter Pan and his lost shadow, I must find a way to connect my spirit with my soul. In this inner battle I carry with me on a daily basis I must come to the realization that I am not perfect! And by all means this is not an excuse to go out and act a fool, but I need to know that it is not I who does "...what I hate to do."

"As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is the sin living in me." Romans 7:17

There is no escaping my humanity.
So then, to whom do I take my imperfections? Where can I feel safe in my imperfections? What hope do I have? Jesus. Point blank. Once we become sons and daughters, we are no longer bound to the slavery of sin. No, we become slaves to righteousness, love, and to Him.

"In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death." Proverbs 12:28

In the same manor that my sister stepped in and "took care of things"is the same manor that Jesus steps in and takes care of all our junk too. He says, "Don't worry, I got this." It's not that he lets us get away with things, it's that he corrects us with his everlasting love. Through His correction, is the only way we will ever be able to live.

"because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in." Proverbs 3:12

My conclusion is this, I must bring everything I have, the good the bad and the ugly, to Him. He is the only one that can take it and transform it into something amazing and beautiful. We cannot be without our shadows, because without our shadows we have lost our identity. We must teach our shadows to whom they must bown down to. No not us, but to Christ. And that my dears is what it means to be transparent in front of GodHe can handle the naked truth.-MUA!

When you find the right foundation you can cover up flaws and still look natural! Unless your going to a mascarade, lets leave the mask at home yes?

The "Point":

"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Romans 10:17

The other day I had a very intense conversation with a very amazing person. We were talking about his past and how verbally abusive kids were to him while he was in school. Everyone would call him derogatory names referring to him as being homosexual because he was different. He tells me that to this day he cannot stand those words that have wounded him deep in his heart. At first, not knowing what those words meant he ignored them. As he grew so did his understanding and with that understanding came doubt of who he was. It really all started with one word. And with that one word it spirrald into a thought. That thought turned into an emotion. That emotion then turned into a behavor and all it took...was ONE WORD.

Many of us have these crazy beliefs about ourselves that we deem true simply because of an experience but mostly because someone "told"us that it was true. As a kid I was constantly reminded that I was a failure. That thought became an emotion or a feeling and soon turned into a behavior. I became a people pleaser and wanted so badly to win the approval of everyone but especially my leaders. I was always so thirsty for hearing some one say, "Good job!" And when they didn't I would beat myself up. I also had an intese fear of failure. 99.9% of the time I would stay on the safe side and rarely did I like making desicions in fear it would all crumble and the blame would fall on my shoulders. Little did I know that God was really saying this:

"The steps of the good man are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take. If they fall it isn't fatal, for the Lord holds them with his hand."
Psalm 37:23-24

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble."
Psalm 46:1

Too many times we buy into what peole say instead of focusing on what God says about us. We even give into crazy lies that Satan whispers into our ears to try and destroy us.

"She is so much prettier than you..."

"You will never amount to nothing, you are a failure."

"You are dirty and unlovable..."

"No one is going to marry you, you will be alone forever."

"You aren't worth anyone's time...give up."

"God doesn't love you...not after what you just did."

"He will never forgive you."

"Prayer is useless, He doesn't care and he will not answer."

Belive it or not, I gave in to every single one of these lies. I believed all these things to be true based on an experience or something that was said to me. I had to search deep inside and forgive those who had harmed my heart and re-program my thought life. I got rid of all the MUSIC that only gave life to those lies as well. The devil is out to steal our lives and make us forget who we are in Jesus and what a friend we have in him. When you are faced with these and the gazillion lies that come to your head you must remember this:

"We are told to take captive very thought we have and are presented with and make it obedient to Christ. We should demolish anything that is contrary to the knowledge we have of God."
2 Corinthians 10:5

How do you know that it's a lie? Ask yourself this:

1. Is this thought bringing me closer to God?

2. Does this thought make me feel happy or angry?

3. Who/What told me this and deemed it to be true?

99% of crazy thoughts that come into our head are ones that need to be tossed out into the trash! They are no good! How do we overcome negative thoughts towards ourselves? STOP listening to people who aren't important and START listening to people who are around to encourage you. THAT will bring HEALING TO WOUNDS that have been around for years and for some decades. Read things out loud especially the Bible so you can physically hear what God thinks about you! You can look up specific verses for whatever your dealing with and read them over and over. Post them on your wall in your bed room! Right now my husband and I have 5 verses about faith that have been on our walls for about 3 months. We needed that boost after I left my job and money became tight. At first I thought they looked kinda tacky but after reading them over and over they have brought so much peace and joy to my life. So much that when a bill seems like it might not get paid, my eyes search for those verses and gives me faith to believe that GOD is the owner of EVERYTHING and he is my God who PROVIDES! After you read this post I would love it if you had a second with God. If you journal write it. Ask God to reveal to you what lies you have believed about yourself and to help you start working towards believing the truth. I promise that you will be surprised with what you may find. Remember our actions are based on an emotion and an emotion is based on a thought...Trace the Base for your belief of YOU.

Limitless Lashes

Alright so, who doesn't want to have insanely gorgeous lush lashes? You'd have to be nuts to deny it! Lashes are the few wanted hairs on the face that make a dramatic difference in a good way. We all try mascara after mascara and even on occasion, pull out the falsies to give us a huge boost in lash volume and length. But...what about those days when false lashes are a little too glamorous for jean and T-shirt days? Find out how to have lush lashes with the one's you were born with!

The "Look":

So, besides a really good mascara, what are the other measures we can take to have luscious lashes? Learn step by step instructions on how to make it happen!

1. Apply eye liner as close to your lashes as possible. This will make it appear as if you have more lashes growing at the base! You can also apply liner (directly from pencil or with an angled liner brush) to the upper inner rim of the lashes where your eyelashes grow. You can achieve that by looking up and simply following the natural shape of the eye. The picture above is a perfect example.

2. Buy a good mascara according to the length of your lashes. If you have long lashes, find a large brush. If you have shorter lashes, you want to stay away from large brushes and find smaller brush wands.

3. When buying a mascara read the labels. Not all are for volume and not all are for lengthening. The majority only tackle one job and not both (however they do exist). Keep in mind that volumizing mascaras almost always contain something that might make your lashes look "clumpy" so correct application is key to having volumized lashes that look natural.

4. If it is length that you seek, look for mascaras that create "tubes"around the lashes. These help you build layer upon layer till your lashes are at desired length.

5. When applying mascara, start at the base of the lash. Slightly wiggle the wand back and forth as you move in an upwards motion. Continue to do so till you get desired effect. Remember to get the tiny hairs on the inner corner of the eye and the longer lashes on the otter corner of the eye. That will help make your eye look even bigger!

The "Products":

 Volumizing Mascaras

Brand new to the American market, Fairy Drops The Scandal Queen is a volumizing mascara that adds lashes so lush it claims to make you look like a doll! With a unique patented brush from Japan, it coats even the tiniest of hairs with fiber to create the doll effect! 24

Definitely on my list of favorites, Anastasia's Lash Lifting Mascara gives you that perfect volume look you love without the stiff lashes you hate. It is ophthalmologist tested and hypoallergenic! $22

Lengthening Mascaras

Blinc is the perfect lengthening mascara for those ladies who have "running" problems. I have encountered many women who have watery eyes and succumb to wearing water-proof mascara every day. The problem is that after prolonged use of water proof mascaras you will begin to lose your lashes! With the removal of the water proof mascara you lose tons of tiny hairs. With this mascara, although water RESISTANT, it is removed with warm water and light pressure. What more could you ask for?! $24

Givenchy's Phenomeneyes is only for the daring! Perfect for all lenths of lashes, this little silicone sphere creates long lenthy lashes with only a couple of stokes! It lengthens and curls leaving those lashes longer than ever! $28

Lengthening & Volumizing

This is my #1 choice in mascaras! I don't think I have ever had that many compliments with any other. People would stop to ask me if I had false lashes on at least 2-3 a DAY! It works perfectly for lashes of all lengths as the bush tapers at the end providing perfect application even in the tiniest of hairs! (comes in black and brown) $26

Diorshow is one of the well know mascaras that not only add a fist full of lashes but tons of length as well! It is one that I use often when doing make up on clients! $24.50

Lash Treatments
Lash treatments can be a huge help when wanting something a little more longer lasting. There are all sorts of treatments to stimulate lash growth. They are available in clinical and natural formulas.

Peter Thomas Roth has one of the best selling lash enhancers on the market today! "Lashes To Die For" is created to dramatically increase the appearance of lash length, thickness, and fullness in only 4 to 8 weeks! $125

Meet Tarte's all natural lash enhancer "Multipleye". It is said to increase lash length by 152%, visually boost volume by 638%, and contains a nice blend of soy and amino acids! Just apply daily and cha-cha-cha-chia! $65

Talika Lipocils Expert gives you the best of both worlds! It offers a sponge tip applicator for the root of your hair and a spoolie brush to completely cover every lash to the tip! This product will not only offer lengthier lashes but darker and curvier ones too! What a dream come true! $55

The "Point":
I remember when I was kid how much of a thief I was. I mean a down right lieing thief. I would steal anything from watches, to candy, to money. Anything that I thought was valuable to me. Anyone who knows me personally knows, that I LOVE sweets. I mean any type. So you can only imagine me as a kid! On one occasion, by brother decided that he wanted to start selling candy. By this time I was about 7 or 8 years old and broke. The only money I had was for impoverished kids that I would save in a yellow barrel. At the end of the month I would bring it to church and the kid with the most money won a beautiful prize. Quite frankly I can also be very competitive so the thought of me taking money put of the barrel was not an option. However, my brother had a barrel too and he didn't seem to mind losing and I didn't mind watching him lose. (Pause. I must say, I am in shock at how insanely horrible I was at such a young age! My poor family! haha! Un-pause.) So while he was taking a shower or off somewhere reading an Archie, I would slither into his room and steel the money for the impoverished children. Then I'd wait a few hours and go back to his room and offer up what I had stolen in return for an Air Head, a Blow-pop, Nerds, or Lemon Heads. I wish I could say that I felt bad for doing it but I didn't. I enjoyed every last bite...till the day I was confronted. I looked up to my brother more than anyone and I felt so ashamed the day he asked me about the missing money. I eventually confessed and never stole from him again. The relief and satisfaction from knowing my secret was out and I couldn't get away with it any longer, overpowered the sweet tangy flavor of candy. I was free.
Addictions come in many different shapes and sizes. They know nothing but lost broken hearts looking for consolation from something besides the truth. They seek out to steal, kill, and destroy. They are predators.
Time after time we have all seen the devastating effects of drugs, alcohol, sex, food, and various other things that have consumed the lives of many. I myself have experienced and known the hold that addiction can have and hope was the last thing on my mind. I found myself caught in a web of shame and guilt. I was afraid for people to know what I was dealing with and I bought into the lie that I was all alone. I was slowly but surely spiraling out of control and I even began to pull others down with me without realizing it. It was much bigger than pennies that I had stolen from my brother. No I was blind to everything, even God. I had grown up in the church and "knew" the truth of God's word but I had never grabbed hold of it and accepted it as as my own. I remember the day I made the confession to a leader in the church. It was through that confession that I began to feel the grasp of my addiction begin to loosen up. Through the process, I was constantly being bombarded with thoughts that I needed this addiction to make it, to survive. That I would never be able to get better and that it would one day lead me to an even worse behavior and cause me to lose my life. I was terrified however I continued to fight against my addiction knowing that one day I would win. Confession was the first step, however drawing close to Jesus was the biggest. I had to make a choice to forget everything I once deemed as "normal" and go after the craziest adventure of my life. I knew that the only way for me to find my life was to get rid of the one I currently had. So there, at the edge of the cliff I closed my eyes...and jumped. I went to missionary school and went to several countries where I encountered some of the most poorest yet amazing people ever, I met and married the man of my dreams, and I started my own company out of donated make up and a dream. I am free today and I owe it all to Jesus. It was not easy, and I may have stumbled, even fallen, wanted to throw in the towel and give up. But the fighting was worth it cause today I feel like the heavy weight champion of the world.
Everyday I make a conscience decision to chose truth over a the lie that I need something other than Jesus to make me feel good, or release stress, and even make me feel powerful and in control. I am constantly bombarded with images that remind me of who I was, but with that Jesus sweeps in with his truth and redirects me to the truth of who I am in Him and who I am today.

"Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses them and renounces them finds mercy." Proverbs 28:13

"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:15-17

"Then you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free."
John 8:31-33

There is power and healing in confession! I have known this to be true time and time again and will hold tight to this truth for the rest of my life. I confess everything to two amazing people in my life on a daily basis. Jesus and my God sent husband. Between them both I am only getting better at identifying the truth and rejecting the lies. With truth comes freedom and when you are free...you are nothing less that LIMITLESS.
