Alright...this one is for all of you Panda Bear Posers out there that don't have a clue when it comes to a good concealer and an even better eye cream! Lots of people have asked me the advantages to using an eye cream vs. a concealer and how the two relate. Believe it or not the two go hand-in hand! You can have the most expensive concealer and it fall flat only because you aren't using an eye cream! Which one to chose with all of those eye creams out there right? I'll give you the 4-1-1 on some of the top eye creams and some great ways to help conceal your dark circles!
The "Look":
Before After |
Like in this picture, we want to find a product that lightens our dark circles so that we can maximize our concealer. And believe it or not, there are some of you who won't even need a concealer after reviewing these simple reasons as to why most people have dark circles!
1.Allergies- people who have allergies tend to be deficient in necessary vitamins to help fight off any potential attacks to your body. If you remove the allergy, you might also remove the dark circles!
2.Lack of Sleep- this is pretty self explanatory. If your up studying all night, have anxiety issues before bed, or if your like me and are an owl...this will reflect in your skin!! HOO!HOO!
3.Nasal Congestion-a clogged nose can cause dark circles when the veins from your eyes to your nose become darkened and dilated!
4. Sun Exposure- can increase melanin production!!! Yikes SPF ladies!!!
5.Thinning From Age- as you age the skin beneath your eyes thin, making blood vessels more visible. In this case you would need a good collagen booster.
6. Lifestyle- smoking, alcohol, caffeinated drinks, lack of nutrition, lack of exercise can all cause dark circles.
7. Heredity- if this is the case, you cannot do much to reduce the appearance of the dark circles. However...you can still use an eye cream to keep it hydrated and looking even more dark!
8. Facial Features- long lashes, larger eyes and noses can cast shadows in the eye area. You just gotta get creative with your make up by using highlighters to reflect light and scare of those shadows!

These are a few natural remedies that can help. If you still find that they aren't helping you can then reach for the big guns!
1.Cucumber slices- cut thin slices of cucumber and place over your lids! Take a 10-15 min. break and relax...this will help!
2. Tea Bags- the idea is very similar to that of the cucumber slices. The only difference is that tea usually contains caffeine which will give your skin a really nice boost!(Try not to use any with chamomile. Use the regular ones which contain Tannin)
3.Frozen Spoon- put the spoon in the freezer for 10-15 minutes and hold down under the eye till the spoon becomes warm (Be sure to wrap the spoon in a paper towel first!!!).
4. Wet Q-Tips- wet the Q-Tip and place in freezer for 5-10 minutes and swipe carefully underneath the eye.
Those are your natural remedies. These are the creams. Now let me make something super clear! Even if you aren't a dark circle sufferer, you still should be using a good eye cream for those fine lines and wrinkles.
Jurlique's Purely Age Defying Eye Cream has to be one of my favorites! Not only does it help kill off those nasty dark circles, but it helps reduce puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, and helps to hydrate as well! Australian made, all natural eye cream! $45
When battling those ninja dark circles and you have tried it all...Peter Thomas Roth's Power K Eye Rescue is your HERO! This little guy is packed with vitamin "K" which is essential when fighting those dark circles. AND if you combine it with a great retinol...together they make Batman and Robin look like sissies! $100
Um...I answered "yes' to this question. Hylexin's Serious Dark Circle Cream is really serious stuff. Now this is for the person who really, really, suffers from it bad! I have personally seen this product work wonders on my friends!
I have personally seen this product being used by a good friend of mine and it works! It reduced his dark circles immensely and I noticed when he stopped using it! CRAZY! This is definitely one of my favorites and have only heard amazing things about it! And it not only tackles dark circles...if you are like me and have many concerns, this will also take care of fine lines and wrinkles, hydration and smoothness! Kinerase Under Eye Rescue $78
CONCEALERS
Amazing Cosmetics only has one of the best concealers on the market. It is a full coverage concealer perfect for those who suffer from extreamly dry skin under the eye. Be warned! A little goes a long way! $28-$42
Stay Don't Stray has to be one of my favorite products from Benefit. Not only is it made for all skin colors, but it is also a primer for both eyeshadow and concealer but also a color correcter in one! A corrector (different from a concealer) is a product that is created to balance out any odd colors you may have on your face. For example, if you have pretty dark circles and you place this before your concealer, it will neutralize the dark circles and maximize your concealer! And as I mentioned, it is also a primer for your eyeshadow and concealer! So not only does it help your concealer stay in place but it also helps your shadows to stick too! $24
This concealer is brand new from Sephora! It is their new Perfecting Cover Foundation. It comes in 8 shades and is non-comedogenic which means you can use this on any area of the face where you need any extra coverage! Definitely one of my favs! $16
I have to say, I was a little skeptic with Clinique's Airbrush Concealer but I ended up really liking it! It doesn't crease easily and illuminates the eye area beautifully! It is also ophthalmologist tested. $19.50
The "Point":
I don't know about you but when I was a kid I used to get hurt all the time. I have close to 10 pretty noticeable scars to prove it and I can't imagine how many there were that didn't leave scars. The majority of them were acts of stupidity. For example, the time I went to sit down in a chair and totally took out the edge of the table. Or the time I jumped on the bed with a bunch of sharp pencils. AH! This is a good one... when I was 8 I tried to jump over a 4 ft. bush going full speed ahead. I was insane...outta my mind. I don't know what I was thinking! Thank God my best friend's , Chelsi and Kasee, mom came running outside to make sure I was alright. She brought out a wet rag and took me home. My parents were grateful for her kindness. It took a while for it to heal. It scabbed up pretty ugly and left a peculiar mark on my elbow. (Now known as the "the bubblegum") I should have gotten stitches like Chelsi and Kasee's mom had suggested but no one else saw a real need at the time and just let it heal all on it's own. Unfortunately it left an ugly mark that I sometimes try to hide. Many of us go through major things from time to time. Things that mark us and leave us feeling wounded, hurt. We try to heal them on our own but unsightly scars are left on display for all to see, ask questions, and even cause disgust. Although it might have hurt more to get stitches, my wound would have healed properly. We often try to put a band-aid on a divorce, a rape, a trgedy, or even words of severe pain that leave us wounded...deep. Some of us need the surgeon of all surgeons to come and stitch up the brokeness that lies in the depth and complexity of our souls. We are so wounded that we reject this healing and conceal it with funny jokes, excessive work, over eating...the problem is that when we don't heal these wounds, we hurt others out of the hurt that is inside of us. We fail at becomming the person we were meant to be. We end up enjoying and becomming so comfortable with this pain that we become blind to our insensitive nature and our lack of understanding with others and with those we love. The beauty in all of this is that it is never too late to get healing. God is the grand master at healing old wounds and doing it with love and grace. Today is a new day...we have to let it heal. Not for anyone but ourselves! It may hurt a little, and you may have to revisit the pain, but like an old bandage coming off of wounded skin, the pain is only temporary, however the healing is eternal. Let Jesus dig deep inside of you and heal so that you no longer have to conceal.-MUA!
